After seven years, the CLUMA Trophy is back on the Balearic Islands’ calendar, reaffirming its commitment to promoting dinghy sailing.
From June 20 to 21, Club de Mar-Mallorca hosted the seventh edition of the CLUMA Dinghy Sailing Trophy, a regatta organized under the auspices of the Balearic Sailing Federation that brought together nearly 50 boats in the ILCA 4, ILCA 6, and Europa classes in the Bay of Palma.
The races began on Saturday with the completion of the three scheduled races for all participating classes. On Sunday, however, weather conditions affected the day’s schedule, and only one race in the Europa class could be completed before the race committee decided to call off the competition.
Following the races, the awards ceremony brought the event to a close. During the ceremony, Club de Mar-Mallorca Commodore Manuel Nadal de Uhler spoke, stating: “This edition has been particularly significant for Club de Mar-Mallorca because it marked the return of the CLUMA Trophy after several years of absence. We want to thank the sailors, coaches, and clubs for their participation and support in reviving such an important event in Balearic sailing.”
The victory in the Europa class went to Catherine Havenga of the Club de Vela Puerto de Andratx, who was crowned champion after the four races held over the weekend.
In the ILCA 4 class, Marianna Orduña of CN Cala Gamba took first place in the girls’ Under-16 category, while Marc Rigo of CN Sa Ràpita won the boys’ Under-16 category. Among the Under-18 sailors, the girls’ title went to Marina Garau of Club Náutico Arenal, and the boys’ title to Marc Femenias of CN Cala Gamba. Meanwhile, in the ILCA 6 class, Cristian González of Club Náutico Arenal won the men’s category, while Meritxell Sitges of Club Marítimo San Antonio de la Playa claimed victory in the women’s category.
The competition marked the return of an event that had not been held since 2019 due to renovation work on the Club de Mar-Mallorca facilities. The CLUMA Trophy was launched in 2014 with the aim of promoting grassroots sailing and reached a record participation of 209 boats in 2017, a figure the organization hopes to gradually regain in future editions.
