Thanks to the efforts of 34 divers and more than 30 volunteers on land, the day ended with the removal of more than 4,000 kilos of waste, including objects that had fallen into the sea and materials carried by the current.

A team of volunteers made up of 34 professional divers and more than 30 people on land took part yesterday, Sunday, in the 6th Club de Mar-Mallorca Seabed Clean-up Day.

The event, which took place throughout the morning at the club’s facilities, specifically at piers 30, 40, 50, 51 and 52, resulted in the removal of more than 4,000 kilos of objects that had fallen into the sea or been carried away by the current. Glass bottles, tyres, iron, scooters, among other items, were removed by divers with the help of volunteers on land.

Pedro Barceló, security director of Club de Mar-Mallorca, thanked the more than sixty volunteers for their participation: ‘This year we have broken the record for volunteer divers. The club would like to thank all the volunteers for their involvement. Without them and without our collaborators, this action would not be possible; the credit is entirely theirs.’

After the divers and volunteers had finished their work, the waste was sorted and then deposited at the club’s recycling point.

As a token of appreciation for their selfless work, all volunteers were given a commemorative T-shirt. The day ended with all participants enjoying a paella.

This activity is part of the environmental actions carried out by the club’s Quality and Environment department with the aim of preserving and respecting both the environment and natural resources.

The 6th Club de Mar-Mallorca Seabed Clean-up Day was supported by: Tiberi Catering, Exploreextrem, Societat Espeleològica Balear, Escuela del Mar, SSP Underwater, Isurus, Coronet, Tech Dive, Safamar, Asociación Protemar Aventure and Almas Marinas.
