The infrastructure removes historic barriers between the port and Palma and strengthens the port–city connection
Club de Mar-Mallorca has inaugurated its new pedestrian walkways today, a key milestone in its transformation process that symbolises the Club’s commitment to opening up to the city and reinforcing its connection with the urban environment and the Port of Palma.
The event was attended by the Mayor of Palma, Jaime Martínez; the Minister of Business, Self-Employment and Energy of the Government of the Balearic Islands, Alejandro Sáenz de San Pedro García; the Minister of Housing, Territory and Mobility of the Government of the Balearic Islands, José Luís Mateo; the President of the Balearic Islands Port Authority (APB), Javier Sanz; and the President of Club de Mar-Mallorca, Borja de la Rosa, as well as members and other personalities linked to the Club and the Balearic nautical sector.
This new infrastructure, integrated within the Club’s ambitious renovation project, has made it possible to remove the physical barriers that historically separated the site from the urban environment. As a result, pedestrian access is improved and the direct connection between the port and the city is strengthened.
During his speech, the Mayor of Palma, Jaime Martínez, noted that “today, Club de Mar-Mallorca is ready to once again play a decisive role in shaping the new city model that we are building together from both public administrations and the private sector. This model is that of a modern, sea-oriented, cohesive and accessible city, in which Club de Mar-Mallorca will be one of its unquestionable references.”
“These facilities play a fundamental role in the major city project represented by the Palma Culture & Innovation Bay, in which the seafront and the port are a key element,” he added.
Likewise, the President of Club de Mar-Mallorca, Borja de la Rosa, highlighted that “today we are making a reality the port–city integration project on which public administrations and private initiative have worked together, represented in this case by Club de Mar-Mallorca, an institution with almost 60 years of history that forms part of the landscape and maritime heritage of this land.”
The opening of the walkways will allow residents and visitors to enjoy a space with a wide range of retail and dining options, as well as activities linked to recreational boating, in an environment that combines modernity, sustainability and respect for its identity. All this while maintaining the values that have defined Club de Mar-Mallorca since its foundation in 1969: commitment, excellence and discretion, consolidating it as a unique enclave in the Mediterranean.
During his remarks, the Minister of Business, Alejandro Sáenz de San Pedro, reiterated that the new infrastructure “turns the Club into a more accessible and functional space, facilitating the connection between two key areas of the city,” highlighting that “these initiatives are aligned with the Government’s vision, which sees the nautical sector as a strategic pillar.”
For his part, the President of the Balearic Islands Port Authority (APB), Javier Sanz, stated that “if there is something particularly noteworthy about this project, it is its perfect integration. This initiative is not an isolated piece, but is fully embedded in two major transformations shaping the present and future of Palma: the redevelopment of the Paseo Marítimo and the comprehensive transformation of the port, on which we are working at the Balearic Islands Port Authority together with public administrations, companies and civil society.”
All segments of recreational boating
The more than 500 berths at Club de Mar-Mallorca cover all segments of a passion that forms part of Mallorca’s identity: from social boating for vessels from eight metres in length to large yachts which, as Borja de la Rosa pointed out, “allow us to attract wealth and prosperity, with a ripple effect that has led our authorities to rightly consider the priority role of the ‘blue economy’ in the new productive model.”
The complex, which will soon be fully operational, consists of four spacious and interconnected buildings that create open, bright and green spaces, surrounded by vertical gardens of approximately 300 square metres that provide a much more integrated vision of the complex.
The Club de Mar-Mallorca nautical school, with fully equipped classrooms and a children’s area aimed at fostering a passion for the sea from an early age, will be another of the fundamental pillars of the new facilities, together with the organisation of major international events such as the Illes Balears Clàssics regatta for classic yachts or international championships.
