Club De Mar Mallorca

Palma, capital of vintage sailing in the Mediterranean with the XXX Regatta Illes Balears Clàssics

Forty boats, including true legends of the sea like Tuiga (1909) and The Lady Anne (1912), will compete from August 13 to 17 in the 30th anniversary of the regatta organized by Club de Mar-Mallorca.

For four days in August, Club de Mar-Mallorca will once again place Palma at the center of the global classic sailing map. The Illes Balears Clàssics Regatta celebrates its 30th edition this year as a well-established event that brings together some of the most iconic sailboats in the nautical world.

A total of 40 boats will take part in the competition, held from August 13 to 17, 2025, at Club de Mar-Mallorca. Commodore Manuel Nadal highlighted in a press conference that this edition will feature debuts such as Cariad, a 36-meter-long sailboat built in 1896, alongside classics like The Lady Anne, Tuiga, and Manitou—true sailing legends.

The boats will compete in the categories of Classics, Vintage (Gaff and Bermudian rigs), RI Classics, Spirit of Tradition, and Big Boats. There will also be a special section called “Presence,” allowing unique sailboats to participate in the regatta atmosphere without competing, such as the llaüt Alzina or Doña Francisca, a 52-meter yacht that hosted the official regatta presentation.

According to Nadal, the courses will range from 8 to 22 nautical miles and will include a long-distance race. José Luis Arrom, general director of Club de Mar-Mallorca, stated that the economic return for the Balearic community will reach €1.7 million—25% more than the previous edition.

Sponsored by Marine Pool, Allianz, and Howden, the Regatta Illes Balears Clàssics  has become an essential meeting point in recent years for lovers of classic sailing and maritime heritage preservation. As part of its commitment to sustainability, Club de Mar-Mallorca will donate all proceeds from beverage sales during the regatta to the Almas Marinas Foundation.

Additionally, the club will collaborate with Sail4Earth, whose founder, Wilhelm Landmann, will present an award to the boat that donates the most through the Uno Earth app, supporting marine reserve protection.

The press conference was held aboard Doña Francisca, captained and owned by Andrés López, and attended by Gabriel Mestres (director of Allianz Mallorca), José Cuart (director of Howden), Esperanza Llinás (director of Eulen Balearics), David Ramljak (director of Boatsters), and representatives from Glicerrr.

The 30th edition will feature a broad social program aimed at promoting maritime heritage, including a photo exhibition by nautical photographer Nico Martínez, a lecture by Navy sailing delegate Ricardo Álvarez Maldonado, and guided dock tours by Leonardo de Vincentiis to explain the history of each participating boat. Post-regatta cocktail events will also be organized for the crews.

The Illes Balears Clàssics is part of the 15th Mare Nostrum Classics Trophy – Spanish Cup of Classic Sailing, the 2025 CIM Circuit (Mediterranean International Championship), and the Mediterranean Champions Cup, organized by the Vintage Classic Yacht Club (VCYC).

Club de Mar-Mallorca organizes this regatta on behalf of the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation, with the collaboration of the Balearic Sailing Federation, the Royal National Cruising Association, and the Spanish Association of Vintage and Classic Boats.
