This is the first step in the collaboration agreement with the Club de Mar – Mallorca to implement an innovative environmental strategy.
TRUEWORLD has become the technological partner of Club de Mar-Mallorca to implement a pioneering plan in the management of its environmental impact that is based on technological innovation, efficiency and transparency of its management and commitment to the protection and conservation of the Balearic Sea. The first step in this plan will be to measure the carbon footprint of the Illes Balears Clàssics Regatta, which starts this Thursday.
“The aim is for Club de Mar to become a world reference in technology applied to environmental management and scientific-social collaboration. Marco Mendoza, CEO of TRUEWORLD”.
Club de Mar-Mallorca is well aware that the climate emergency is severe and that now is the time to make a firm and well planned commitment. Therefore, implementation of an innovative environmental strategy is the core of the renovation process currently underway. This will help CdM to become an intelligent marina that will lead the way towards the creation of port infrastructures that are more respectful of the environment and in harmony with the sea.
To achieve this, the Club de Mar-Mallorca has teamed up with the Mallorcan company TRUEWORLD, which has developed a new sustainability strategy that will be implemented progressively over the next five years through the management of the environmental risks associated with the Club´s activity.
The debut of TrueWorld’s collaboration with the Club de Mar will be to make the Regatta Illes Balears de Clàssics 2022 an emissions-neutral event by measuring and controlling its carbon footprint.
Club de Mar´s commitment to the climate goals of the Paris agreement to halve emissions by 2030 and to achieve zero net carbon emissions by 2050 will play a fundamental role. In addition, the Club will align with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to take action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity.
As the main axis of the strategy, the Club de Mar-Mallorca takes responsibility for its greenhouse gas emissions through calculation, reduction and compensation of the carbon footprint of the organisation, the regattas and all its events using a method based on scientific rigour and the most widely used international standards (GHG Protocol, ISO 14064). Since 2019, the organisation has been calculating, reducing and registering its carbon footprint in the official register of the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (MITERD).
In addition, since 2008 the Club de Mar has been part of the European Union’s EMAS Register. The Club’s commitment to environmental certifications, which in the case of EMAS certification is voluntary, is total and guarantees that the Club always goes beyond the requirements of any national or European regulations. The aim is always to ensure that the environmental footprint of its activity is the smallest of all the nautical facilities in the Balearic Islands. As a result of this effort, the Club de Mar-Mallorca has become a reference in this aspect for marinas and the entire nautical industry in Mallorca.
A key element to optimise the environmental performance that TRUEWORLD will implement in collaboration with MAREXI Marine Technology, is the installation of infrastructures and innovative technology such as home automation, Smart IoT (Internet of Things) sensor technology and real-time environmental software. In addition, the use of Blockchain technology will ensure traceability and transparency of management and data. This system will be put into practice during the celebration of the Illes Balears Classics Regatta, which will begin on 11 August, a fact that shows that the Club de Mar has not wanted to miss a single opportunity to move towards responsible management.
Another of the strategy’s axes is the programme of affiliation to local nature conservation projects or those with a positive impact on the environment, in other words, projects that help to mitigate the climate crisis. To this end, alliances will be established with leading local foundations working on local projects, mainly for the preservation and conservation of the biodiversity of the Balearic Sea. Through these projects, those attending the Club’s events will be able to voluntarily offset their carbon footprint, make individual financial contributions or simply share their actions on social media platforms to amplify their efforts.
The Club’s commitment to education and awareness is crucial to driving positive climate action through sport. The sporting activity that unites sailors is one of the best ways to promote training and learning together, solidarity among peers and constant respect for the environment. For this reason, workshops, courses and conferences are organised for young sailors that contribute to greater knowledge and awareness of climate issues, paying special attention to the environmental awareness of the students.
In addition, a communication and diffusion strategy will be developed to communicate the values and environmental mission of the organisation, events and regattas through a clear and transparent message that connects with the public and helps to promote sustainability among participants, attendees and stakeholders.
TRUEWORLD is a technology company from Mallorca formed by a multidisciplinary group of scientists, researchers and technicians from a wide variety of backgrounds (geographers, biologists, environmentalists, physicists, programmers, etc.) who have teamed up with journalists, communicators and creatives to promote the fight against the climate crisis through creation and implementation of comprehensive projects.
