Illes Balears Clàssics is finally here!

The Club de Mar-Mallorca’s classic sailing regatta begins on the 11th of August with more than twenty historic boats in the competition.

The month of August brings us the most important event of the year of the Club de Mar-Mallorca: Regatta Illes Balears Clàssics, which this year reaches its 27th edition.

This year we are bringing back the three days of racing, after two years of health restrictions, and the dates chosen are 11th to 14th August. Once again, the best international classic sailing boats will gather at our club to celebrate this magnificent event in which the beauty of the historical vessels and the sport of sailing merge perfectly.

In this edition more than 20 boats and their respective crews will fight for a good position in the different races in three days of competition. We will be able to enjoy the marvellous classic figure of traditional boats in the Illes Balears Clàssics, such as Giraldilla, a sailing boat that originally belonged to Don Juan de Borbón, grandfather of King Felipe VI, recovered in 2002 by the Fundación Hispania when it lay almost destroyed in an estuary in Tajo river. Marigan (1898) and Gipsy (1927) will also sail in Palma. Other illustrious vessels will participate, such as the Stella Polare, a training ship of the Italian Navy. In addition, as one of the great new additions this year, we will be able to enjoy the visit for the first time in the Presence class of the Merrymaid, a beautiful 34-metre Gaff Cutter, built by Camper & Nicholson in 1904, the year in which it had a glorious regatta debut, winning the King’s Cup in England in the presence of King Edward VII.

The regatta also recovers its social programme in a new location on quay 7. Apart from an event to welcome the participants on Thursday the 11th, the following day will see the return of the crew party. Every day after the racing, the port will be enlivened with musical entertainment and on the last day of competition, Sunday, a prizegiving ceremony will be held to bring this year’s edition of the Illes Balears Clàssics to a close.

On Tuesday, 9th August, we present this year’s Illes Balears Clàssics Regatta at the Museu Marítim de Mallorca. Two days later the competition begins. Classic sailing and historic boats will once again take over the Bay for three days.
