The Sports Gala returns to Club de Mar after two years of absence

The Can Barbarà dock, home to the canoeing section, hosted the event to acknowledge the work of the club’s most outstanding sportsmen and women.

The Can Barbarà dock, which houses the facilities of the canoeing section of the Club de Mar Mallorca, was used for the first time this year to celebrate the entity’s Sports Gala. After two years of forced absence due to health restrictions, the club wanted to recognise the daily effort and success in competition of the most outstanding sportsmen and women of the last few months.

The Commodore of the Club de Mar, Manuel Nadal de Uhler, highlighted sporting achievements such as the entry of Aina Palmer into the high performance technification programme of the Federació Balear de Piragüisme or the participation for the first time in the Spanish Championships and Cup of Spain of the sailor Joan Rodríguez in the Laser category. For his part, the president of the Club de Mar, Borja de la Rosa, praised in his speech the role of sport as an authentic school of life and the importance of the human and formative work of the coaches with the young athletes.

In this year´s Sports Gala, Club de Mar Mallorca highlighted the efforts of the sailors Joan Payeras (Optimist) and Joan Rodríguez (Laser 4.7). In canoeing, the entity rewarded the great work of Antonio Murillo in the junior category, Ainhoa Rosquete in the benjamín category (8-9 years), Aina Palmer (children 12-13 years), Germán de Abasolo (cadets 14-15 years), Sergio Sánchez (junior) and Jana Mestre in the paracanoe team.

There were also  special acknowledgements for Carme Mas, a club instructor who started in the club at the sailing school, Gisele Corte and Elena Reolid, for their excellent results in sea kayaking in national and international competitions, and for the veterans of the canoeing section for their perpetual enthusiasm and excellent example they give for the younger athletes.
