The Can Barbarà dock, home to the canoeing section, hosted the event that recognised the work of the club’s most outstanding sportsmen and women.
The Can Barbarà dock, which houses the facilities of the canoeing section of the Club de Mar Mallorca, was used for the first time this year to celebrate the entity’s Sports Gala. After two years of forced absence due to health restrictions, the club wanted to recognise the daily effort and success in competition of the most outstanding sportsmen and women of the last few months.
The Commodore of the Club de Mar, Manuel Nadal de Uhler, highlighted sporting achievements such as the entry of Aina Palmer into the high performance technification programme of the Federació Balear de Piragüisme or the participation for the first time in the Spanish Championships and Cup of Spain of the sailor Joan Rodríguez in the Laser category. For his part, the president of the Club de Mar, Borja de la Rosa, praised in his speech the role of sport as an authentic school of life and the importance of the human and formative work of the coaches with the young athletes.
This year the Club de Mar Mallorca has highlighted in the Sports Gala the efforts of the sailors Joan Payeras (Optimist) and Joan Rodríguez (Laser 4.7). In canoeing, the entity has rewarded the great work of Antonio Murillo in the juvenil category, Ainhoa Rosquete in the benjamín category, Aina Palmer (infantil), Germán de Abasolo (cadete), Sergio Sánchez (junior) and Jana Mestre in the paracanoe team.
There were also special acknowledgements for Carme Mas, a club instructor who started in the club at the sailing school, Gisele Corte and Elena Reolid, for their excellent results in sea kayaking in national and international competitions, and for the veterans of the canoeing section for their perpetual willingness and excellent example they offer to the younger athletes.
