The Mare Nostrum Circuit will have an overall winner in 2022

The Mare Nostrum classic boat regatta circuit, of which the Illes Balears Clàssics of Club de Mar Mallorca forms part, will have an absolute winner in its next edition. The new trophy that will decide which boat is the best of the circuit will be decided according to the rules that will be published with the Notice of Race.

Next year, the Mare Nostrum Circuit will once again feature the four usual races: Puerto Sherry Classic Week, Puig Vela Clásica de Barcelona, Illes Balears Clàssics and Copa del Rey de Barcos de Época de Mahón.

The four clubs organising the races met on 15 October at the Real Club Náutico de Barcelona to analyse the 2021 season and prepare the new edition. This year’s edition of the Mare Nostrum Circuit was attended by 41 boats. The category with the highest participation was Classics (17), followed by Época Bermudiana (12), while Época Cangreja and Spirit of Tradition classes each added six boats to the regattas.

The organisers of the event were satisfied with the level of participation, given the difficulties caused by the pandemic, which have continued to affect travel and transfers this year, especially in the international arena, which has had an impact on the competition of boats from outside our borders. If the health situation continues to improve, those responsible for the classic sailing circuit are convinced that the participation of boats in the different races will improve too.

The meeting in Barcelona also served to discuss other issues such as relations with the recently created Fundación de Vela Clásica de España, to which the clubs show their full support, the requests for incorporation into the circuit, and the coincidence of the same with the recently created Copa de España de Vela Clásica.
