The yachts Meerblick (1917), Giraldilla (1963) and Rossina di Mare (1961) have won today the fifth edition of the Club de Mar Classics Regatta for Vintage, Classics and IR Classics, respectively.
The race, with Giraldilla as final victor, sailed through a coastal line of 11 miles, has taken place this noon and until the late afternoon in the Bay of Palma, under the organisation of Club de Mar Mallorca, with a southern wind between seven and twelve knots.
The V Club de Mar Classics has replaced this year the traditional Illes Balears Classics regatta, the annual international appointment that had to be suspended due to the Covid-19 health crisis
The race has taken place locally in Palma following a strict health protocol. The nine participating yachts, all them in classic and vintage classes, have met at the start line in the Bay of Palma, after doing all the entry processes online. There hasn’t been a prize-delivery event at shore in order to avoid contact between people from different teams.
Manuel Nadal, Club de Mar’s commodore, has thanked the crews for participating in a “difficult” year, strongly affected by the Covid-19 global crisis, and has encouraged them to participate again next year in the Illes Balears Classics regatta, considered one of the best in the Mediterranean circuit.
“The V Club de Mar Classics regatta is one of the few competitions that has taken place this year since the health crisis was declared. It is important to maintain certain level of activity, always respecting all measures recommended by the health authorities, in order for those in the sailing world can keep enojoying this sport in a safe way”, said Nadal.
