Hi there, I am a deckhand with a diverse range of professional & personal skills looking to start a career in the yachting industry with previous carpentry, mechanics and hospitality experience.
I have experience being a carpenter’s hand working on 1st and 2nd fixes on big commercial housing sites as well as working on re-fitting blocks of high-end flats working through to complete the snagging lists. I have also done painting, polishing, varnishing, and general labouring work in commercial settings. My mechanical experience comes from modifying and restoring cars in my spare time. My recent projects include the installation of a complete turbocharger kit on my 1994 Mazda MX5 and fully servicing a 2002 Suzuki swift that I turned into a ‘mild’ rally car which completed an 11,300-mile road trip from London to Morocco and then to Georgia and back to London.
On the less practical side of my work experience, I worked as a shift manager for a pub where I managed both the bar and waiting teams during services. This taught me that being proactive & personable is key to providing a quality guest experience – being able to make a quality espresso martini helped too. For the last 3 years, I have been working in a new, dynamic startup in London that taught me to think critically, take the initiative and remain adaptive in a challenging environment.
I have decided to leave my job in the city to pursue this new career in yachting because it’s something I feel very passionate about and something I want to do for a long time, not just a season to then drop out. Eventually, I want to take steps to become a qualified engineer. I cannot emphasise enough how badly I want to get my career in yachting off to a start, even just with a day of work.
Thank you kindly for considering my interest. Please give me a call or drop me an email at your convenience so we can discuss this further.
