Club de Mar Mallorca rewards its best athletes
The entity celebrated last Saturday, December 10th, its annual gala with the presence of double Olympic champion Theresa Zabell, who encouraged the winners to continue working "so you can fulfill your dreams."
The Club de Mar Mallorca celebrated last December 10th its annual sports gala, in which it rewarded the best Club sailors and canoeists in 2016.

The diplomas were given by club president Borja de la Rosa and his sports advisor, the double Olympic champion Theresa Zabell, who in her speech encouraged the young athletes to work hard to see their dreams come true.

The gala, with the presence of more then one hundred attendees, recognized, among others, the results of the Optimist team at Club de Mar, formed by Antonio Martino, Mario Trave, Anna Crocce, Joan Rodríguez and Fernando Chmiel, together with their instructor Jordi Payeras and technical advisor Santiago Cañellas. Manuel Nadal, commodore of the club, emphasized the participation of this group of young promises first participation in a Spanish Championship.

Other sportsmen awarded by the Club de Mar Mallorca were: María Company (first from Mallorca in the Laser class 4.7), Marc Capó (champion of Europe junior in Snipe), Samantha Mücher (best fry canoeist), Ignacio Palomero (best Benjamin canoeist) , Violeta Benavente (best junior canoeist), Mario Trave (outstanding sportsman, Mallorca champion in Optimist class D).

There was also a special recognition for the Sea Kayak team that won the bronze medal in the 2016 Spanish championship; for the company Bufete Frau Slocitors (sponsor of the Club's annual monotype regatta) and for the specialized publication Gaceta Náutica (for its promotion of Club de Mar's nautical activity).

The Club de Mar also delivered scholarships for 2017, as a reward for the efforts and dedication shown by the canoeists Ignacio Palomero, Diego Sánchez and Violeta Benavente; and the sailors Antonio Martino, Mario Trave and Bosco Sánchez Carvajales.

In his final speech, the president of the Club de Mar congratulated the winners and reminded that one of the purposes of this entity is the promotion of sports, which in recent years has been greatly enhanced through sailing and canoeing equipment, and the organization of regattas, among which the Illes Balears Clàssics Trophy stands out, considered one of the most important of the Mediterranean in its class.
