Club de Mar Mallorca's sailing students clean the coast of Illetas
Half a hundred students from Club de Mar Mallorca's sailing school have completed a coast cleaning day with the Ecomar Foundation and the olympic champion Theresa Zabell.
Zabell, sports technical advisor of the Club and president of the Ecomar Foundation, has highlighted that this initiative's aim is to 'bring awareness among the children about the fact that waste arrives in our coasts and teach them how to separate and recycle'.

The students have sailed towards Illetas along with their teachers in four dinghies and sailing boats and have cleaned, with gloves on, the area for an hour and a half.

In the area they have found a stranded boat and Club de Mar's sailing students have collected the waste separating anything that could be recycled.

Aside from a large amount of plastics, among the waste they collected there was a mast, probably from the stranded boat, glass fibre, wires, glass containers, batteries and two orange puffs that were releasing their contents into the sea.

The olympic champion has reminded that, along with the Ecomar Foundation, she has been organising these activities for 6 years now all around Spain and has encouraged other marinas and yacht clubs to join this ecological and solidary initiative.
